Most health optimization programs unintentionally make it more difficult for you to achieve your goals. They do this by ignoring the 4 Critical Factors for Fat Loss Success:
#1 – There Must Be a Deadline:
It is simple psychology, if you don’t have a deadline there is no urgency to take action. Life has been this way since you were a child in school. Homework was completed because your teacher put a due date into action.
Weight loss programs fail or succeed based on this same psychology. If you don’t have a deadline or target to shoot for, there is no urgency to have it completed. Your efforts become watered down and you wont stick to the program. Simply having a membership to a gym or attending the odd exercise class ALONE will never work. You have zero urgency and no real or specific target in mind. Alas, there is no plan!
#2 – It Must Be Simple to Follow:
Almost every fitness program falls into one of two categories. Either it’s too complicated and almost impossible to follow or there’s really no specific program outlined for participants.
Most of these fitness programs that promise incredible results would probably work for you if you could actually stick to them. All it would take is hiring a full-time nanny to watch your kids, quitting your job to give yourself all the time in the world to go to the gym, hiring an in-house Chef and maxing out your credit cards buying every health supplement in sight. No problem, right?
This happens for a couple of reasons really. Either the ‘expert’ creating the program really has no idea about who you are and what your life is really like, or they just don’t care and they’re creating their masterpiece program that would work if all the stars aligned.
On the other side of the spectrum are the ‘just show up’ programs. Gyms, aerobic classes, running programs or long slow cardio and fitness bootcamps. With these, there really is no plan, so there is nothing to follow. These coaches are mistaking getting someone tired for having them reach their goals.
#3 – There must be a challenge for change to occur:
For you to see any significant changes, you are going to have to step out of your comfort zone. Many fitness programs are afraid to ask you to do that. Why?
They know that no one wants to be uncomfortable forever and they are afraid you wont even begin if there is any inkling that this is going to be difficult. These coaches have ignored the need for having short-term deadlines and they have completely avoided asking you to get uncomfortable at all (even in the slightest).
#4 – People are social animals that thrive when they work together:
If there is no one there to support you, then you are more likely to fall off the wagon. A lack of accountability means you’re more likely to skip the after work walk in exchange for an extra half an hour of TV on the couch. If no one is there to tell you that they need your weight submitted to them each week, then you may not feel the same need to stick to the challenge you have set out to complete.
